Only seven days after being in the midst of battle, Peirs is admitted to The Prince of Wales Hospital for Officers in London.  The hospital was located in the Great Central Hotel in Marylebone neighborhood which was requisitioned in 1914 to be used as a hospital.  It is now the site of the Landmark Hotel.  More importantly for Peirs, however, may have been that the hospital was located less than two miles from his father’s office at 17 Ablemarle Street. in Mayfair.  There are no letters in the collection written by Jack during his nearly three month recovery, presumably because he was able to visit with his family in person.
