My dear Mother,
We are gradually working through the list of officers, but there are 5 or 6 more with the Battalion to go before my turn comes & then there is the question of officers on detached duty. I don’t fancy myself that my turn will come before march & I shall wait for Glad if there is any immediate prospect of her returning soon.
I am very glad to hear about the pram & hope it is running all right to-day & that Father has had a good run from Oxted.
It is now very cold with a North-wind & it has froze the last 2 nights, so it looks as if winter has come.
At the moment we are very suspicious of a windmill close by which appears to stop & start at unusual intervals & for no apparent reason. The men say that it stops when troops are going along the road, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. However I think they ought to insist that the thing goes all day or stops all day.
Love to all Jack
