Family Profile:

Leonard Davies Looker was second-born to William Looker, a florist and fruiterer, and Kate Looker in 1888. His sister, also Kate, was seven at the time of his birth. (Kate would go on to marry Mr. Ralph Carr, have two sons, and spend time in Canada in the decades following her brother’s death.) The family employed a two young women as a domestic cook and house servant  throughout Looker’s childhood and adolescence, Ms. Ada Guy and Ms. Mabe Long, respectively. Looker attended the Westminster School from 1900-1906 as a member of Grant’s house. He was married to Mrs. Ethel Mary Looker (née Davies) of “Breamsley,” London on September 17, 1916 at St. Stephen’s in Lambeth. Before the war, Looker was an underwriter at Lloyd’s of London, the prestigious insurance market. He was an employee of Messrs. Granville, Enthoven, and Company, Insurance brokers, who announced his passing (alongside one other death in the company) in the Gloucester Citizen‘s insurance section on September 8, 1917.

Service Profile:

Looker, who joined the 5th Queen’s battalion on January 29, 1917, was attached to the 8th Queen’s on February 10, 1917. He was killed in action almost six months later, one of three 8th Queen’s officers killed in action in August 1917.
