Family Profile
Frederick Claude Tucker was born in Liverpool, UK in 1894. He was the fourth of 5 children born to Frederick and Ellen (Hazell) Tucker. His father worked as a clerk for the Board of Trade in Liverpool. Frederick, was educated at the Woodville School in Formby and Birchanger Road School in South Norwood, Croydon, Surrey. In 1911, some of the family was still living in South Norwood – mother Ellen, sisters Eva and Lillian, and Frederick Claude who was working as an assistance at an off-license shop.
Service Profile
Frederick Tucker enlisted on 9 September 1914 and disembarked with the 8th Battalion, The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) on 31 August 1915. He was killed in action near Guillemont, France, on 12 August 1916.
Tucker was initially buried with 10 others just north of Maricourt, where the Battalion withdrew to after being relieved on 13 August 1916 by the 9th East Surreys, but his body was moved after the war to the Peronne Road Cemetery.
